Stargate was always a movie first, and now that movie is being rebooted. In his original vision for Stargate, Roland Emmerich saw three movies wrapping up the Stargate story. However, with Carolco Pictures shutting down shortly after the original release, no other Stargate movies were made.
That is, however, all about to change. Roland Emmerich has now confirmed that MGM has given him the green light to reboot the Stargate franchise with a movie trilogy. He has not given out many details yet, but has confirmed that the film will be recast as original film actors are now too old to play the parts.
There is no writer for the new movies yet, but expect to see one hired soon considering that MGM is interested in moving forward with this project.
